True Grit...and other things

I am watching True Grit, the original, with John Wayne.  Man, this little girl is litigious and annoying.  I can't wait to see the new one.  I should read the book first though.  It's hard to read a book after the movie, movies make it so much easier and then that pretty much spoils the anticipation in the book.

Last night was Suckfest 2011.  I had some "family drama".  Let's leave it at that, for fear that  I will be damned by saying my feelings on a blog...that no one I know reads.  I am just happy that I have my best friends to talk to.  Friendship is highly underrated.  I am so ridiculously lucky to have such awesome people in my life.

Since my move, I have joined 3 Meetup groups; Women of Substance (my nerdy chick book club), the Capital City mom's group and the 20 and 30 something women's group.  They keep me busy and I love that I can get my girl time in. I need some bitches to roll with in Tally.  Yo.  So far I have been to a few book meetups, trivia night at a bar a couple of times, an awesome potluck dinner/game night (YOU HAVE TO PLAY "JUST DANCE" ON Wii) and the mall play area and library storytime with Googs.  I am meeting some quality women here....quality.  It's starting to feel like home.

Now, if we could just get some damn summer up in this beeeeotch.

Book it Up...Bookers

I haven't blogged this week because I have been reading like a....like a...what reads a lot?  Anyway, I finished The Woman in White by Wilkie Collins for my book club that I meet with on Monday nights (nerdy chick group) and it was awesome, it's supposed to be one of the first sensation novels and one of the best mystery novels ever written.  It's a classic and for good reason, not just because it is old.  I also finally finished The Shack, it was lent to me by my mom and grandma who liked it.  It's very sad, spiritual, fantastical, and a good read.  It took me like 9 months to read it because I always had something better to do.  Now I am sleep training Goo Goo (sleep training = exercising the demons) and so I read a lot while she is writhing around in her crib.  I started the next book for my club, The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins.  You may have heard of it or even read it.  It's twilighty, meaning it is like young adult fiction, sci-fi-ey and basically an easy read.  It's actually pretty good so far...everyone keeps telling me it's pretty badass.  There are 3 in the series now, I think this first one came out in 2008.  Basically it's futuristic and this young girl gets sent to the Hunger Games (like the olympics only you don't want to go because you fight to the death) and that is all I know so far.

On other news, I finally got my first Entertainment Weekly that I ordered 2 months ago and I am stoked about 2011 in entertainment.  Here is what I am super excited about:

Parks and Recreation season 3
the new show Harry's Law with Kathy Bates
the movie Your Highness with James Franco and Danny McBride (my dream team)
the Green Lantern movie with Ryan Reynolds
Crazy Stupid Love with Steve Carrell and Ryan Gosling
Tina Fey's new book Bossypants (she is the funniest woman alive)
Swamplandia, a book by Karen Russell

Lucky Mag Jan 2011

I only subscribe to a few magazines, one is Lucky.  Lucky is the magazine about shopping and style.  I love both of those things...not that I have money or style, but that doesn't mean I can't have my delusions. I always find some awesome goods that I want but can't have.
These are the pages I bent:
These cute glittery flats from ZiGi (I can't find the exact ones on the site but the ad is in the mag)
Purple and Gold eyeshadow duo...they have 3 different brands, Dior, Loreal and this YSL

This works Turbo Balm supposedly its an awesome product o have hanging out in your purse.

Also, I really want some lace up oxfords...I know they must be an acquired taste, I happen to love them. Anything without heals is cool with me.  Kind of like these.

Sharing is caring

me with my nook on xmas eve
I don't like to share. Does that make me a bad person? I think not. When you share, your shit gets broken. Alex thinks what is mine is his. Where did he get that idea? When his parents bought us iPods, he took his back then used mine all the time. My mom just bought me a Nook for Christmas and he has already started to claim it. Do I sound spoiled? Well I am. What's wrong with liking your stuff to be yours, I mean, that's why the words "mine" and "yours" exist. Do I sound mad? I am not at all.  I just want everyone to know that I am selfish and proud of it.  I am only selfish with my electronic goods and food, I am not at all selfish with my love.

Jan 3, 2011

I usually don't verbalize any resolutions, that way no one can say on December 31st 2011, that I didn't do them.  I actually don't think anyone would remember I said them or even notice if I followed through.  Why do I say that?  Such a sad thing to say.  I spent the first day of 2011 feeling like shit (getting over a cold), alone with my baby (whom I love but that's not the point), missing my husband, staring at a cloudy rainy day.  Believe me, I tried to be positive.

I wrote a crap load on lonely stuff and just deleted it because that's not productive and no one wants to read that.

Basically I want to try harder to be happy living this simple yet difficult domestic life.  I want to write more, read more, try to make some friends...basically do some shit for me at least a couple of times a week.

Xmas day 2010
Happy 2011 everyone.  last year was good...I had a baby, Alex graduated and got a job, I lost my baby weight, I was with friends and family a lot, and I was happy.  I hope to look back at this post at the end of 2011 and honestly say that it was as good, if not better, than 2010.  It's gonna be tough to compete!  I will try hard.
