A Few of my Favorite Things

I am following the lead of my friend over at Reckless Bliss Blog and listing a few of my favorite things...for fall.  Here goes:

1. Thanksgiving Crafts  I love crafting during the holiday season.  Now that I have Goo Goo, I can't wait for her to be of age to craft and not eat the supplies.  I made an awesome wreath this past weekend.  I got a plain wreath like this one:

and I added cute football ribbon to it, brown polka dot ribbon, some fall foliage with pumpkins and some cute glittery pumpkin stickers.  I will have to take a photo of it and post it later.

2.  I love FOOTBALL!!!!!!!!!!!!!

3.  The fall line-up of TV.  I am such a boob tube lover.  I hate the summer because the TV shows suck.

4.  Shopping for xmas gifts.  I always say I am too broke but I still spend too much.  I have 26 people on my list.  Geez.  I may be the only person in the world who likes the holiday shopping crowd.  The more people the better.  Feels like Christmas!

5.  Carving pumpkins.  They are messy and it's hard as hell on your hands and those little tools they give you always break in 5 seconds...but it's fun!

2010 Brick Holiday Card!

I love that having a family allows you to send out cards with cute pics of your family on them to let everyone in your life know how awesome and happy your growing brood really is.  My go-to "idiot-proof" site to make cards on is Shutterfly.  I have been using their site for years...they are quick and easy, just how I like my women.  Hehe.  My bridal shower, Goo Goo's birth announcement, and every year's holiday cards have always been from Shutterfly's awesome collection of cards and stationary.  This year I chose the Picture Tree one...I love it!  You can use lot's of photos in this one.  Alex and I always talk about how people suck when they only send pics of their kids and not the adults of the family...we love ourselves too much to exclude our beautiful faces.  We love your kids people...but we loved you first!  Anyway, if you want to do some super cool cards for a great price (they come with envelopes) then Shutterfly is great...and they have new cool designs for this year.  They also have Christmas thank you cards!  Photo cards are like a really awesome cheap gift. If you complain about a photo gift, then you are a total asshole.  Photo gifts come from the heart and are sentimental and timeless.  I made some super cute photo magnets for us and my mom's birthday, it has Goo Goo sitting on the counter in the kitchen and a fall themed border.  It's the cutest magnet ever.

I don't want to post my 2010 holiday card on here yet because I don't want to spoil it for those of you who are getting one!  I will post it later.

Pumpkins, Ponies and Rides...OH MY!

I could not have asked for a better weekend.  I knew going into it, that it would be super busy and I was worried it might be too much in one weekend, but it was a blast.  I am such an awesome planner (patting my own back).  Saturday we woke up early and went about 45 minutes away to east Orlando to a Pumpkin and Pony festival.  Serena had her inevitable pumpkin patch photo shoot (see slideshow below) and saw horses and ponies for the first time.  Ponies are a little creepy.  You can't trust a miniature horse.  Goo Goo got to see her little boyfriend Zizo (her kissing friend) too.  Then we went to my brothers for a surprise visit, then Gammy's (my grandma's) and then stopped by my mom's work to say hi.  Later on Saturday we went to Fall Festival at St. Mary Magdalen church and Goo Goo rode 3 rides!  Her first ride was the merry go round with me.  I had to steal that "first" from Daddy.  Then she rode 2 more rides.  She wanted to ride the big girl rides so bad but she was too small.  My little daredevil.  Then Sunday we went to the Mt. Dora Craft Fair (huge event).  We ended the weekend with the Bucs winning their game and a visit to my best friend Andrea and to my mom and grandma's house.  It was crazy busy but we had a blast!  Here is a slideshow.

Media as Nutrition

I was listening to the Jason Schwartzman interview with Terry Gross on the way to work.  I guess his mom is Adrian (Talia Shire) in the Rocky movies and also Connie Corleone in the Godfather movies.  Interesting.  I really love his show Bored to Death on HBO, where he plays a struggling writer and part-time non-licensed private detective.  It's not really my type of show, it's a little too indie, but I love it.  It reminds me of a show that people who listen to emo, wear hand made clothing and drink herbal tea would watch.  I do all of those things by the way, but not exclusively.  Anyway, what I am trying to get at is that he was talking about how growing up, and even now, if you went into his mom's home, his childhood home, that there is always music, books opened on tables and movies playing, all over the house.  It gave me this warm sense of familiarity because I feel like that is how my home life is.  I am usually reading multiple books at once, I always have multiple styles of music playing in different rooms and I often have the TV on.  He was saying how he thought this type of constant media was enriching and "nutritional".  I love that he called it nutritional.  I hear on NPR and other places how we, as a society, can't just sit in quiet and just be and think.  I agree with that somewhat.  I don't think we need to be texting and messaging and running around like maniacs all day.  I believe though, that music and books and TV can not only entertain us, but enrich us, by giving us constantly changing perspectives and a variety of information that can broaden our horizons and keep us on our toes.
At the end of the day I am happiest when I have learned something, even if it is only information about another person or some silly tidbit of information.  I love the nutritional value of media.

First Birthdays and a Mexican Bridal Shower

This past weekend I went to my cousin's twins first birthday party.  I also went to my best friend's co-ed mexican themed bridal shower (we are going to her wedding in Mexico in January).  Here are just a few of the 100 pics I took in a nifty little slideshow.  I remember before having S, that everyone was like "you're not going to be able to be going all over the place, partying and traveling once you have the baby"  I'LL SHOW THEM!

Some highlights of my weekend:
*Spending time with family and friends!
*Seeing the twins...they are getting big.
*Going to Gemini Springs, never even heard of it, but's it's a great park
*Drinking a ton on Coronita's (small Corona's...I don't get it)
*Following that up with a Margarita
*Playing my awesome games...The Newlywed game (drunken version) and a timed collage game
*Serena partying it up, not being fussy and going with the flow
*The vegan cupcakes (no, I am NOT vegan and yes they were f'ing delicious) from Raphsodic Bakery in Orlando
*Sunday I scrapbooked some of Serena's birth cards and my bro came over and chilled for a bit

Finish Line!

25. 10 of your wildest dreams

What?!!!  Number 25???!!!  I made it!  Geez Louise.  This has been very trying on my brain.

Here's the finale of my list. This is a silly one too.  10 wildest dreams?  Silly.  Here we go.

1.  I had a dream once when I was in my late teens, that my mom came home from work, and I was in the garage in the laundry area, and she said where's Tim (a male friend of hers) and I said very matter of factually, "he's on the line" and she was like "what? where?" and I had hung him out to dry on the clothes line.
2.  I have very vivid sexual dreams where I wake up and sometimes I am pretty sure I had an orgasm as I was waking up.  They were more frequent when I was pregnant.  I am usually having sex with a person (obviously), but it's like not  someone I can make out, it's just a body.
3.  I would like to be a successful songwriter, not a singer, I just want to write the songs and get money for them.  That is a wild dream.
4.  I want to be rich! I want money, lot's and lot's of money, I want the pie in the sky, I want my cake wanna eat it too.
5.  I have crazy dreams about work (I work for a cosmetic surgeon), and usually before we have a busy surgery day, I have all kinds of fucked up dreams about surgeries gone horribly wrong and weird surgical shit.
6.  I had a dream at the end of my pregnancy that the baby (Serena) was trying to come out through my belly and it didn't hurt but I could feel her legs and arms trying to bust out of me and could see her coming out.  It was wacky.
7.  When I am watching the Mentalist, I dream that Simon Baker is doing naughty things to me.  The same goes for Charlie Hunnam on Sons of Anarchy.  (I hope Alex isn't reading this).
8.  I dream sometimes about deceased relatives.   We are hanging out and talking.   It's always realistic and I always feel so awesome afterward because it's like we were really chillin' together.
9.  Now I am running out of dreams.  Let's see.  I dream for world peace.
10.  I also like the song Dream a llittle dream for me.

IMPORTANT MEDICAL NOTICE!!!!!!!!!!*********

Do not drink week old cheap wine and then eat Burger King for Breakfast.

The End is Near

24. 10 most influential people/things/events in your life

1.  Alex, my husband.  He influences me all day long...everyday...whether I want it or not ;)
2.  Serena, my baby.  I can't get as drunk now, I can't go out whenever I want now...all my decisions are based on her now.
3.  My mom.  She raised me and she is the person I go to if I need anything, especially a couple bucks.
4.  The internet.  How can the internet NOT be one of the top things.  What did we do without it?
5.  My best friends.  All of my friends are great and each one is good for advice on different things.  That's why it's good to have a lot of friends.  I  have a wealth of knowledge, just a phone call away.
6.  TV.  It influences me to watch it.  It calls my name..."Reneeeeeeee...come......see shows.....retard yourself more...."
7.  Music!  I always have music on the brain.  My brain is probably 70% music.  I love all types and listening to certain types according to my mood enhances my feelings, kind of like acid.
8.  Food.  I have to eat food 3 times a day, every day of my life.  I would call that an influence.
9.  My past.  Whether good or bad, right or wrong, my decisions in the past made me who I am and they always pop up whenever I am making new decisions.
10.  NPR.  I listen to NPR a lot to keep in touch with what's going on.

Bittersweet Symphony

Sigh.
I started to write a long drawn out post about my weekend in NC for a friends wedding...but I erased it.  The title of this post says it all.  I spent about an hour crying on the drive home because of nostalgia; I missed hanging with the boys (my older brother's friends), I miss Matt's (the groom, my brothers best friend) inviting and laid back parents, who were almost my in-laws at one point, I was excited to meet the bride for the first time and her son Noah and share their wonderful farm life...and most of all, I was sad that we may never again, all of us, be together, especially on such a beautiful and joyous occasion.

Sigh.
I am getting sad just thinking about it.  I am so sentimental.  I love my life, but being at Glenreid Farm, on the most picture perfect October day, drinking a cold beer, hanging with great people, catching up, sharing our lives and our excitement for the new marriage...it just doesn't get any better.  I am so grateful for being a part of Matt and Megan's life.  I want to go back.  I want to uproot my little family and get a farm and bring everyone I love to it and live simply.

Sigh.

Game On

21. 10 favorite games
I feel like this 25 day list challenge is a game, like monopoly, long as fuck and no end.

1.  The game of love.  Isn't it everyone's favorite game?  Don't lie...you love it.
2.  Rock Band.  Greatest game ever for someone like me.  If you think you are badass and the world loves your virtual musical abilities...then this game is for you!
3.  Stratego.  It's an old war game.  That was my favorite board game as a kid.  At least it's not Dungeons and Dragons.  That is super geeky.
4.  Hide the salami.  No explanation needed.
5.  I feel so dorky admitting this, but Alex and I (and Serena) love the American Idol game.  The songs are getting a little old now though.  Simon loves me.  I have only been beaten twice.
6.  Peekaboo!  With Goo Goo!  She is just now starting to think it's funny.  I love her smile.
7.  Texas Hold Em'.  Poker.  It's fun and I suck at it, but I love it.
8.  Golf.  I never play because I am broke and it's hot as shit in the summer.  I need a job where I schmooze with people on the golf course all day.
9.  Where's the keys?  Or the remote? Or the lid for the bottle?  Not games I enjoy, but games my cats enjoy making me play.
10.  Drinking games.  Any game that makes you super drunk in a ridiculous and inappropriate amount of time is a game I like.  Well, until I get that drunk, then I hate said game.

GAME OVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
